Travelling by 4WD camper in the dry season

Book your (family) 4WD camper for July and August well in advance.

If you are planning to travel with 3, 4 or 5 people from Perth to Darwin v.v. or Broome-Darwin v.v. during the European summer school holidays (July/August), please note that the 4WD campers that can accommodate at least 3 people are fully booked a long time in advance.

Many travellers/families book their desired 4WD camper as soon as they are able to book the flights. These come out in early September the year before. As a result, September is a busy month for us as 4WD specialists with a fair share of the 4WD camper fleet suitable for families being booked for July and August the following year. Availability for July and August, also the middle of the dry season in the Kimberley and the Top End (read best travel season), is therefore already at a low level in October.

Nevertheless, there are quite a few families who apply for a 4WD camper then and in the following months. Those who apply in October for July and August are usually still lucky with availability. However, the more we move towards the end of the year, the lower the availability will be. The most popular 4WD campers are fully booked well before the end of the previous year.

Always check availability with us first and then book your flights, not the other way around! If you first book your flights and then start looking for a suitable 4WD campervan, you run the risk of no availability. Because you are stuck with the flights, you will book a 2WD camper to travel from Perth to Darwin and back. A big disadvantage, of course, is that you will then have to skip all the beautiful sights that can only be reached via unsealed roads. Obviously, as great off-road enthusiasts, this is something we definitely do not recommend.

The fleet of 4WD campers, suitable for families, does not exceed several hundred in total. Demand for July and August far exceeds supply. As a result, we have to disappoint many travellers every year because there are simply no more 4WD campers available. So there you go with your holiday planning!!!

Book your 4WD camper before the end of October so that you can be assured of one and so you can go on your desired trip in July and August the year after.
